Our mission at Community Sexual Health is to enhance health and promote equity within our communities by providing comprehensive, client-centered sexual health services. We believe everyone deserves access to quality, compassionate care, regardless of their background, sexual orientation, gender identity or socioeconomic status. That's why we prioritize reaching communities that have historically been underserved and lack easy access to testing services.

We offer free and confidential STI, HIV, and hepatitis C testing in a safe and welcoming environment. Our team of caring public health professionals is committed to providing individualized care, focusing on the unique needs and circumstances of each person. This means having open and sex-positive conversations to help you make informed decisions about your sexual health. We also offer services in Spanish to ensure accessibility for all.

We understand that sexual health is interconnected with other aspects of life, and that factors such as socioeconomic status, housing, and systemic inequalities can significantly influence an individual's access to care and overall well-being. Our services are designed to acknowledge these realities and offer support that extends beyond testing.

We offer a safe space where you can:

  • HIV
  • Syphilis
  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Hepatitis C

Our comprehensive approach to testing ensures that each individual receives the care they need based on their unique risks and needs. PrEP & PEP: Protecting Your Health

PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis) is a powerful medicine that you take to prevent getting HIV. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective at reducing your risk of contracting HIV.

  • PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%.
  • PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from injection drug use by at least 74%.

Visit our PrEP infromation page to learn more. Our dedicated staff can help answer your questions, find resources to help you pay for PrEP if needed, and schedule an appointment to get you started. Call or text our team today at 720-415-7075.

PEP (Post-exposure Prophylaxis) stands for post-exposure prophylaxis. The word “prophylaxis” means to prevent or control the spread of an infection or disease. PEP means taking HIV medicines within 72 hours (3 days) after a possible exposure to HIV to prevent HIV.

If you think you may have been exposed to HIV, it’s crucial to act quickly. Visit our PEP information page to learn more. You can also contact us at 720-415-7075 or call our Denver Sexual Health Clinic at 303-602-3540. We can provide you with the information you need to make informed decisions about your health.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I recently had an exposure to HIV?

Our rapid HIV tests cannot reliably detect very recent exposure to HIV (<8 weeks). Consider seeing a medical provider for additional testing if you believe you were exposed to HIV within the past 8 weeks. PLEASE NOTE: if you have been exposed to HIV within the last 3 days, you may be eligible for PEP (Post-exposure Prophylaxis). PEP is medication taken within 72 hours of an exposure to HIV that can prevent infection.

Learn more about PEP and whether you are eligible, or if you would like to speak with someone about PEP please contact:

Please note: We are not able to provide PEP at our Community-based Sexual Health testing locations.

If you are experiencing symptoms and having difficulty scheduling an appointment at the Denver Sexual Health Clinic, please contact our Community Sexual Health team at 720-415-7075. We are happy to help you schedule an appointment.

How Often Should I Get Tested?

Our testing services are free and confidential, but appointments are limited. We base our testing frequency recommendations on individual factors, such as:

  • Number of sexual partners
  • Sexual practices

Generally, individuals can get tested:

  • Once every three months: For those with multiple partners or engaging in higher-risk activities.
  • Up to once a year: For individuals with fewer partners and/or lower-risk behaviors.

During your visit, our team will discuss your individual circumstances and recommend the best testing frequency for you.

Important Note: We also consider “window periods” – the time it takes for an infection to show up as positive on a test – when suggesting which tests are appropriate. You can learn more about window periods below (see "Window Periods for HIV & STIs").

Schedule your appointment at a time that you feel comfortable with. We are happy to help you find a convenient time slot.

Window Periods for HIV & STIs

It's important to understand that a test may not detect an infection that was recently contracted because it takes time for tests turn positive. This is called the "window period," the time it takes for an infection to become detectable in a test.

Here are estimated window periods for some common STD/STIs:

  • Gonorrhea: 3 weeks
  • Chlamydia: 2 weeks
  • Syphilis: 3 months
  • HIV: 3 months

Important Notes:

  • While our tests can sometimes detect infections during the window period, it's not guaranteed.
  • We recommend testing every 3 months to once a year, depending on your individual circumstances.
  • For any concerns about recent exposure or potential infection, please contact our staff at 720-415-7075 for further information and guidance.
  • If you were told you were exposed to an STI in the past 2-3 months, our Denver Sexual Health Clinic may offer presumptive treatment, even if the results of testing are negative or not available yet.
